Welcome To My Home!

My small family and I have been living the "homestead" life for nearly 9 years. What is a homestead life...and the better question...WHY!?! Both, excellent questions...and where to begin this family odyssey?

I guess I'll just begin. What exactly is a homestead life in the 21st century? Well, we have goats, sheep, a cow (started with 3), a whole host of chickens, a dog, 2 cats. We have a big garden, our own water source, solar power.

Was life always this way for me? I beg to differ. I am a city kid through and through, but always enjoyed the great outdoors, camping, etc. My life 9 years ago was one that most city dwellers can definitely identify with...a regular job, fighter of traffic jams, take-out, etc. I couldn't even look at a cat without swelling up and sneezing to death. So, why the big change...a change that has started with living without running water for 2 years, no "regular" electricity up until 3 years ago, sporadic employment, DIRT, no TV ( thank God!), stores over 100 miles away, DIRT, lots and lots of back breaking work, no computer until a year and a half ago; did I mention DIRT? And an endless supply of unique experiences that happen every day that actually define what having a real life means! I can honestly say, we don't just go through life each day, we live it. We get to see animals, both wild and domestic; we get to experience nature right outside out door; we get to deal with problems that most people call the nearest professional to come right away and fix....I have fixed things just because I had no choice...and you know what, it was great!

Enough rambling for now. So, why this blog? There are a few reasons. One is that so many folks have said to us, "I hope you are writing this down!" Well, I've drug my feet, but, now I'm trying to launch. I hope to recall some of the most memorable events, moments, triumphs, failures, plus share some of the most wonderful experiences that just happen on a regular basis. Perhaps it will inspire some of you to step out and do the same...or conger up memories for yourself or dreams to aspire to.

Thanks for stopping by, come again, and welcome to my home.
